Xiaomi is launching an insurance cover programme for its smartphones and tablets in India. Called 'Mi Protect', the 1-year insurance.

cover programme is so far applicable only on five devices right now: Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Mi 4i 16GB, Mi 4 16GB and Mi Pad.

The insurance will cost Rs 275 for the phones Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime and Rs 499 for the tablerts Mi 4i 16GB, Mi 4 16GB and Mi Pad.

Mi Protect programme covers accidental damages including water damage, drops, extrusion or collision according to Xiaomi. In such cases the user would have to call Mi Protect at 1800 407 333 333, 1800 123 3330 or 0 8080 333 333, following which the Mi Protect team will visit the address to verify the damage and

would initiate the claim verification free repair proocess.

The cover also provides 'call to block your SIM' service from anywhere in the world and a SIM misuse cover of upto Rs 3,000.
